Welcome to the our last topic in the LOLSMG Website Basics Series!  We hope you have enjoyed it so far and learned a bit.  In this post we will discuss how websites interact with your brand.

Your Website

Whether you are an existing company, an individual or group you have a brand. You are your brand, it's what makes you unique, what you stand for, how others recognize you.  Your website, and social media presence is in integral part of your brand.  Your website should integrate with any existing print or other media you have that represents your brand. Your website is an extension of this, in this digital age a very important piece. While flyers and mailers still have their place in marketing, the internet allows you to reach potential customers you didn't even knew you had.   Someone on the other side of the state, country or world. Maybe someone moving to your area, if you are a brick and mortar business.

When considering a design for a website consider what materials you already have and use, like letter head, mailers, flyers or logo. Your site should be in keeping with these designs. If you are starting from scratch you have the chance to design a complete package that can be used to represent your brand off line as well.

Your Social Media Personality

Your social media personality is an equally important part of your overall brand. It should be in keeping with your brand's image. Social media allows you to give your brand a human side that your fans or customers can interact with. There are many social media networks to choose from, you will probably be on either Facebook or Twitter as well as others like Pinterest and Google+. Whatever network(s) you choose make sure they work for your, if you cannot reach the audience you need to reach you might reconsider. You should also note that not all content is appropriate on all networks. Wordy articles with no images aren't going to work for you on Pinterest (which is why you should always consider adding images to any article you might publish), Twitter limits you to 140 characters so keep your messages short, while Google+ allows for longer messages that might be better suited for a deep discussion. Regardless of social media network your brand's voice should remain the same across them.
