As 2013 draws to a close it's time to look back at this past year and forward to the next. It's time to brush up your social media accounts and social media strategies so that they can lead you forward into the New Year. Here are 6 tips to get 2014 started on the right social media foot.
1. Review Your Social Media Account Info
Review your social media accounts. Ensure the information listed in your profile is accurate and up to date, including profile images. Verify your accounts, and website information, ensure your branding is harmonized across all of your branding materials.
2. Review Social Media Account Activity
Now is the time to weed out inactive accounts. No one needs to be on every single social media network, only the ones that work best for their brand's needs. Focus on the social media networks that benefit your brand the most and concentrate your efforts there. Now may also be a good time to consider expanding social media networks for the New Year. Plan ahead for any new networks you may join, or new networks that may develop as the year progresses. Will you be an early adopter? Or wait until the latest flavor of the month social network proves it's self?
3. Review the Data
Look at your social media analytics. There is some essential data you must be aware of in order to maximize your social media ROI:
- What type of post draws the most engagement?
- When is the best time to post?
- What is your target audience?
- What type of post drives the most referrals?
- What are your most unsuccessful posts?
4. Don't forget the intangibles.
Social media marketing isn't all about the numbers. Don't forget about the great loyalty and brand building that can occur when you take the time to build real relationships with your fans. Take a look at how the role your social media has played in your customer service? Is there room for improvement or streamlining the process? Is your social media aiding in the building of trusted relationships with your clients or customers? If not, can this be improved?
5. Social Media Resolution: Be Creative in the New Year.
Social media will continue to change. Predicting changes and trying to stay ahead of the curve may be impossible. However, with a little creativity you can drive a memorable social media marketing campaign that may lead your business to new heights.
6. Review Your Social Media Plan
Do you have a social media plan? If not now is the time to make one, or to review one that you may already have in place. Of special importance is your social media disaster plan! Know what your response will be should a social media disaster befall you! Fine tune your plan for the coming year, to meet all the challenges and rewards that may follower.
