Twitter has now rolled out cashtags. Simply put $ before any stock symbol to get a clickable tag. The tag will work very much like a hashtag, if you click on it you will see all conversations about that company. It only works with official stock symbols, for example $GOOG, $AAPL or $FB ($LOLSMG on the other hand will not work).

If you are familiar with the company StockTwits you may notice this functionality is very similar to functionality they already have. This was not lost on StockTwits CEO Howard Lindzon, who claims that Twitter "hijacked" the idea from StockTwits.
This is not the first time Twitter has implemented features based on users usage. @ and # symbols were also first implemented by users before Twitter added @ and # functionality.
Readers, what you think about this feature? Will you use it? Do you think it's a ripoff of StockTwits? Let us know in the comments!
