Guest blogging is a great way to increase traffic to your site, network, and gain exposure. However, it's not always easy to get a guest posting opportunity. Here are 5 tips to help you get the guest post opportunities you are looking for.
1. Ask politely.
Is there a blog you'd love to guest post on? Send a polite email introducing yourself and your writing skills. You only get one first introduction so make sure it's a positive one.
2. Follow your host's rules.
The host blog may have certain rules to follow. This can be anything from topics, to content, to post length or images. As in real life, good guests respect their host's rules.
3. Don't spam.
Repeatedly sending out requests for guest posts and ignoring the responses or wishes of bloggers won't win you any friends. It may get your emails sent strait to the spam folder, or even blacklisted from posting.
4. Do not use duplicate content.
This isn't doing anyone any favors. It will only hurt your host blog and doesn't reflect well upon your own writing. Showcase your talent and creativity with original, high quality content. It's especially important to ensure that your writing is top notch, including your spelling and grammar.
5. Choose the right site.
Industry leading blogs will have high levels of competition for guest posts. Don't overlook smaller sites! They can be just as valuable as the larger ones. Additionally keep in mind the topic of the site you are applying to. A food blog may not be interested in the latest technology (unless it's food related of course!), so choose wisely.
Use these tips and you will be a well respected guest poster welcomed by bloggers. Do you have any other tips for guest posters? Share them with us in the comments!
