“72 HOURS” HOST BRANDON JOHNSON RECAPS EPISODE 2 “THE LOST COAST OF NEW ZEALAND.”

Wh 72 Hours The Lost Coast of New Zealand: No Sméagol Here...en I first found out our next 72 Hours destination would be in the same location were they shot “The Hobbit” & “Lord Of The Rings” I was pretty excited.  Anyone who has seen those films understands how epic & incredible those areas are.  Though “The Lost Coast of New Zealand” was actually the final episode of our shoot it was also one of the most memorable.  Huge mountains with bizarre rock formations littered our course.  Dark caves, a desert oasis (what the heck?) and the Tyrolean Traverse created an eclectic terrain we had not yet seen.  For the Teams their quest would not be a “shiny-gold ring,” but a silver briefcase filled with $ 100,000.

What stood out for me in this episode was watching the competitors push through their fears and physical limitations.  One example was when Melody (Blue Team) found the courage within herself to overcome the treacherous task of maneuvering across the Tyrolean Traverse.  For over an hour her teammates did all they could to motivate her.  What you didn’t see was that I actually clipped in and walked out to the end of the cliff.  We all had to know if she was going to quit or continue the journey.  Once on the edge I gained a new appreciation for what these teams were facing.  We talked about how she could become an example to her kids by conquering her fears and being a team player. By the time Melody was on the other side she was a different person.  For Melody, the breakdown was the breakthrough.

EricMartin 300x200 72 Hours The Lost Coast of New Zealand: No Sméagol Here...Another example was how incredible it was to witness Michael’s (Red Team) “rescue” of Eric on the traverse as he dangled there helpless.  The amount of physical and mental strength it took was very impressive.  Being no slouch herself Marie always grabbed the reigns when Michael needed a break helping to propel the Red Team forward.  In the end it was this juggernaut that served as the ultimate example of what teams must through mentally, physically & emotionally on 72 Hours.

Though I must remain neutral toward all teams, my heart will always be silently screaming, “you CAN do it.” My goal as Host is to offer an environment where you can rip off your daily mask and get down to what really makes you tick.  You’ll be surprised you’re more powerful than you thought.  Don’t be a master of limitations-be a creator of infinite possibilities.

Check out some of my and take a look of a location prep meeting!
