January brought us Myspace's return to the social network world.  While most didn't expect it to take off and reclaim its former glory it is still here, remember that.  In more memorable news, January also brought the world Vine, starting the trend for short videos.  February saw high profile social accounts hacked, Oreo and the Superbowl Blackout and the death of Hotmail.

This year monetization played an important role for many networks, including Instagram and Pinterest. Both monetized their platforms for the first time. The giants Twitter and Facebook fine-tuned their own monetization strategies and paid offerings.  Speaking of Twitter, there is no missing Twitter's IPO this past year.  Which social network will be next? We will have to see what 2014 holds.
